"I choose you. And I will keep choosing you over and over; without pause, without doubt, in a heartbeat. I will keep choosing you, because God has blessed me with you."
When I was growing up and people would ask me what I wanted to do with my life one day, I used to tell them that I wanted to be a pirate (insert awkward silence here). Not for any reason in particular, it just sounded like a good idea at the time. Looking back though, I realise that I really love the idea of life being a great adventure, and although I haven't been around all that long (somewhere 'round a quater century), it truly has been a pretty awesome adventure so far!
Well, this is us - Christine & Roelof
I never really decided to become a photographer, it was just something that kinda happened all by itself - in fact, if you told a 16-year-old me that in 10 years time I'd be shooting weddings for a living, I might have accused you of smoking something strange. But that's the beauty of life and the joy of the unknown adventures that God has for us. I always loved taking photos but more so of wildlife and landscapes. Then one day I did a little modelling shoot for a friend as a favour. Well, thanks to being in a all-girls school plus the word-of-mouth advantage of living in a small town, I soon started getting booked for shoots all over the town. Shoots soon turned into weddings and my gap year turned into a launching-my-photography-business year.
I get excited about watching the sunrise. Like literally - every. single. day. I love Mondays and have a tendancy to squeal with delight every time I see a horse (even though I ride everyday). I am very proudly South African, I'm pretty sure SA might just be the best place on Earth. I love to travel (if it involves exiting the front door it qualifies as an adventure). I've travelled to 22 countries so far. I'm a health and fitness fanatic. I am that annoying person that wakes up at 5am everyday to work out and will gladly tell you that you probably shouldn't eat that brownie 'coz it contains like 500 calories. In the same breath though, I am addicted to Christmas cake. Those calories don't count. Ever. My super powers include communicating with animals using my very smooth and refined falsetto voice. To sum it all up, I love God, love life, and love people. I hope you enjoy the unfiltered rambling of my blog:)
Roelof pretty much holds everything together behind the scenes. He doesn't have a specific job description which (unfortunately for him) means that he usually ends up helping everywhere with everything. On most wedding days you'll find him arms laden with camera bags, reflectors, a bouquet, a veil, a probably the kitchen sink. He also spends most of the day second shooting if required. On a more personal note, he is my favourite person in the whole world and I am super grateful that I get to follow a career that I love and have my person there with me.
Our journey started in church. I was that hardcore chick slappin' the bass guitar in the worship team and he was that super-good-looking Sunday School teacher. To cut a long story short, he makes me laugh all day long and cooks a pretty good meal (which overcomes all other obstacles as emotions fade - hunger doesn't). At the end of the day, no matter where life may take us, our number one goal is to always serve God with everything we have. Without Him we are nothing and definitely wouldn't be where we are today without Him! Our joy and peace and fulness is found in Him, and we'll give Him glory in everything we do.
